ENUGU—In Commemoration of International Women’s Day, the First Lady of Ezeagu Local Government, Mrs. Joy Ndu, led a delegation of Ezeagu women to a grand event held at Okpara Square, Enugu state, on March 8, 2025. The event was organized by the First Lady of Enugu State, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, in collaboration with Custos Care Foundation and the Commissioner for Gender, Children, and Social Development, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Eni.

The event, which brought together dignitaries from across the state, celebrated the achievements of women and emphasized the need for continuous advocacy for their rights, inclusion, and opportunities.
Ezeagu women made a remarkable impact at the event, proudly showcasing their rich cultural heritage through an energetic display of traditional dance, a well-organized march-past, and a culinary exhibition featuring the rich and unique flavors of Ezeagu cuisine. Their performances drew admiration from attendees, further reinforcing the strength, unity, and pride of Ezeagu women.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Ndu expressed her deep appreciation to the First Lady of Enugu State and the Commissioner for Gender, Children, and Social Development for creating a platform to celebrate and uplift women. She reaffirmed her commitment to promoting initiatives that empower women and ensure their voices are heard in leadership, governance, business, and society.
“International Women’s Day is more than a celebration; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to building an inclusive society where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive,” Mrs. Ndu stated.

She also extended her heartfelt gratitude to the women of Ezeagu for turning out in large numbers to mark the occasion. Additionally, she appreciated the presence and support of distinguished guests, including the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Igwe Emma Anichebe; the Deputy Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government, Chief Mrs. Nkiru Ugwuagu; and the Special Adviser on Diaspora Matters to the Governor of Enugu State, Hon. Mrs. Olangwa Ezekwu, Hon. Ikpeama Felicia, Hon. Chioma Chiaha, Hon. Ekwo Amaka, among others.
As the celebration came to an end, the message remained empowerment and progress, for women are not just ideals but necessary pillars for a stronger, more inclusive society.
