Ezeagu Local Government Area on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, welcomed Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, First Lady of Enugu state, where she led a menstrual hygiene awareness and engagement program, aimed at educating and empowering young girls on the importance of menstrual health.
The event, held at Sedes Sapientiae Secondary School, Oghe, drew students, dignitaries, and key stakeholders from across the region.
Welcoming the First Lady, the Executive Chairman of Ezeagu LGA, Dr. Vita Ndu, expressed his deep appreciation for choosing Ezeagu as the host community for such a crucial initiative. “This visit is not just an honor, but a testament to the value and importance you place on the people of Ezeagu. Your presence and this impactful program speak volumes about your commitment to issues affecting the girl child,” Dr. Ndu stated.

He also took the opportunity to commend the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his unwavering dedication to development across the state. Dr. Ndu noted that Ezeagu is witnessing tangible progress with ongoing infrastructure projects, including the 1.6km Ugwu Nwamgbara Road, as well as initiatives in agriculture, farm estate to boost food production, and economic empowerment.
Also welcoming her excellency, Mrs. Joy Ndu, wife of the Executive Chairman Ezeagu, extended a heartfelt welcome to Her Excellency and appreciated her for prioritizing youth and women’s issues. She described the program as “a timely and commendable initiative that resonates deeply with the needs of our young girls.” She emphasized the joy it brought to Ndi Ezeagu and the students of Sedes Sapientiae Secondary School, and applauded the First Lady’s efforts in combating the stigma surrounding menstruation.

Rev. Sis. Dr. Carol Enwuru, Principal of the host school, was visibly elated as she welcomed Her Excellency, describing the day as memorable and transformative for the school community.
In her keynote address, the First Lady of Enugu State, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, educated students on the essentials of menstrual hygiene, encouraging open communication between children, parents, and guardians. She reaffirmed her commitment to championing programs that promote the well-being of the girl child, stating: We must continue to support our girls to live healthier and more confident lives.”
The program also featured the distribution of menstrual hygiene kits and educational materials. Medical professionals present provided additional sensitization, emphasizing the importance of personal hygiene, physical exercise, and understanding bodily changes during adolescence.
